More about Jesse Friedman

I grew up in Queens, NY – 718! My father was a master plumber and frequently took me on the job. I learned how to thread pipe and solder copper in the basements of some of New York’s most famous buildings. My parents moved me to Cape Cod when I was a teen, where I spent all my free time on the water.

A weird but incredible amalgamation of city and salt life gave me a unique worldview. I put myself through college building websites during the school year and fishing in the summers.

Shortly after graduating, I was invited back to teach at Johnson & Wales University. I was a professor for over 7 years, teaching everything from javascript to WordPress to e-commerce and web marketing strategies.

After working at production houses, advertising firms, and marketing companies, I cofounded BruteProtect, a cloud-powered brute force protection service. We went from a few lines of code in January 2014 to thousands of customers in Aug of the same year. Joining the Automattic team so quickly after our kickoff is evidence of what an amazing and wild ride it was.

Today, I’m the Head of WP Cloud and the Vice President of Innovation and Partnership Success on Jetpack at Automattic. In this role, I’m uniquely positioned to take what we learn from flagship partners and convert that into accelerated product development. I’m incredibly proud to work at Automattic and help to further our mission of Democratizing Publishing, Commerce, Security, and Performance!
